First time customer here and Southern Gourmet Kitchen didn’t disappoint!
Stopped by today for brunch the server brought out complimentary mini cornbread muffins they were fresh, sweet and buttery so very good. Ordered “The cat in the hat” (pictured) they pair fish and grits with a gumbo type rue, cheese and green onions on top of the grits the grits were cooked just right with the right consistency. Fish seasoned perfectly and fried to perfection! Also ordered a strawberry lemonade which was also very good. My server Ashley was very attentive working the bar and she suggested the fish & grits. Everything was so good and just the right portion. Recommend to stop by on a Sunday bunch hours they have a live DJ playing old/new school R&B to keep u entertained. Overall great food and experience

The food was delicious. The music was on point. Real catfish, it was fried perfect and crispy. The collard greens egg rolls were off the chain. The waitress from Paris Tx, was great. We met Chef
(owner), she was very down to earth. You get your money with at the Plano location.

…now, before I get to the food and overall customer service, let’s speak about the owner. I wish I would have read the reviews before patronizing the establishment. The rudest, snobbiest, unwelcoming, unpleasant, and disgusting person I interacted with at this establishment was the owner…wow. If I didn’t
know any better, I would have thought Princess (red/burgundy braids) was the owner due to her smiling, inquiring about my experience, the food, and beverages; I was enthusiastic about returning based on that! Jessica, the bartender was absolutely a delight and I purchased everything she suggested; I for sure had planned on returning simply based on her customer service!

The Cat in the Hat was different and tasty! Shoutout to the cooks! The egg roll was a one time thing but was an interesting experience!

The owner was downright disgusting for no reason. I was dressed appropriately, appropriate mannerisms, full of positive energy, and tipped well. That lady appears to be intimidated by particular women and maybe her hope is that those pretty faces don’t return? I read in one of the reviews that she dismissed someone and referenced her other businesses? Lady, the Lord has a way of humbling people who misuse His blessings.

Based on that interaction, it turned my entire experience upside down! I won’t return and do not recommend it. She apparently doesn’t need anymore patrons!

UPDATE: no ma’am, I’m good! I almost put this as a top choice ,however, appropriate business practices are lacking!

True southern cooking and soul food! I haven’t had macaroni & cheese this good in decades. We had a little difficulty finding it, called and one of the ladies/servers went out on the parking lot and waved us in! Had fried green tomatoes, collard greens, corn muffins and meatloaf too!! Fantastic food and fantastic service!!

Eat here if you like salty food, poor service and eating in a hurry. Our server was not the least bit friendly. When we arrived she immediately started telling us we had 90 minutes to eat and then we had to leave. She said they had people who had reservations and they had to be sure they could be seated, even though there were plenty of empty tables. She also told us that the paper menu and the digital menu prices were different. We decided to leave when another employee talked us into staying. My catfish was fried nice and crispy but it was too salty. My collard greens were too salty. I got a slice of pecan pie to go. I was afraid I would not have time to eat it. I ate a spoonful. I liked it. My friends ordered shrimp and grits, fried shrimp, chicken and cornbread waffles, candied potatoes, and black eyed peas. They did not complain about the food but they said it was salty. We all were disappointed with the service. I won’t eat there again.

We arrived on a Sunday with no reservations(party of 2) and we were sat within 15 minutes. Our waitress was Shawna and she was superb. The star of the show is definitely the Eggrolls😍😍Overall the food was delicious and the atmosphere was amazing. We ordered the catfish, macaroni, mashed potatoes, and cheesy grits topped with pan seared catfish. There is a live DJ and she played nothing but the hits. This is not the place to come to if you’re looking to come and think. This is a place to come vibe and have a great time because the music will be pumping. 10 out of 10, will definitely come again.

This place is absolutely amazing. The food is extremely delicious and completely matched by the amazing service. Best server, Shajuna! The collard greens egg rolls are a must! We wanted everything so we ordered a little of everything. Everything is made to order so there was a bit of a wait. However was so good so it made up for it. Also that was some of the best peach cobbler I have ever had.

One word to describe this place is exceptional! If you’re looking for a place that’s serving the flavor and vibes check this spot out. Everything I had was great! My favorites were the eggroll with the greens and the catfish. I’m looking forward to my next visit!
